Dunstable is a large Market Town in Central Bedfordshire of approximately 37,400 population. It neighbours both Luton to the east and Houghton Regis to the north. The Dunstable and Houghton Regis area is designated as an area that will continue to significantly grow mainly through delivering a sustainable urban extension to the north and north west of Dunstable and Houghton Regis.

Over the next 25 years this and the wider growth points have the potential to enable 11,150 new homes to be built and create nearly 7,000 new job opportunities. To support this growth, there are a number of planned proposed strategic transport interventions that will have a significant impact on the town.
